Knowles Junior School is one of seventeen schools in Milton Keynes which belong to the MKIP, which has been set up to enable the young people in our care to get even more out of their time at school. Pupils recognised as more academically able, or talented in areas such as art, music or sport, will have opportunities to enhance their learning through either in school, or out of school, projects. The school sets targets to help them realise their potential and they have opportunities to work with groups of children (both in our school and other schools in the MKIP). The children take part in fun challenging activities according to their recognised talent or ability. We will celebrate their achievements both inside and outside school. Learning Mentors The school has two learning mentors who work with children who have ‘barriers to learning.’ These barriers can be caused by a lack of confidence, behaviour or attendance issues, or outside problems such as bereavement or family trauma. Our learning mentors are available to work with children either in or out of the classroom, giving them the most suitable support for the child’s particular circumstances. The aim is to help every child to optimise achievements in school. To this end our learning mentors will also involve parents in their work. Any child entering school at a time other than at normal transfer will be allocated a learning mentor to help to settle the child into school and ease the transition from their previous school. |
