Humanities

Our Humanities work is based around the traditional subjects of History and Geography with other subject areas incorporated where appropriate.

Children are taught the skills needed within each subject.  In History, for example, children are taught to place events in their correct time and to learn how different events can shape not only their own time, but the future as well.  They learn about the culture of ancient civilisations and how our own country has been affected by different invaders and settlers over the years.

In Geography children learn about the countries, oceans and continents of the world.  They also learn about places closer to home and how man has affected them.  They learn about how the earth itself is shaped and how the environment is continually changing due to the work of the weather, rivers, seas and more catastrophic events such as earthquakes and volcanoes.

Work in school is often backed up with day visits and with visiting speakers.

Parents are informed each term about the Humanities work their child will be covering so that any research work required can be planned for.
