We recognise these as very important in keeping children’s education as broad as possible. Music Peripatetic teachers provide special tuition for children wishing to learn to play the violin or guitar. At present, Year 3 also benefit from a weekly music lesson based around the recorder, and bringing in all aspects of musical education; years 4 have a weekly keyboard lesson. These lessons are provided by a specialist teacher from the Milton Keynes Music Centre. Other year groups have their own weekly music lessons which may be based around the MK Scheme of Work, radio or TV programmes. The school choir is brought together for special performances and is open to any child regardless of musical ability. All children also have the opportunity to join the school orchestra. Dance Dance is seen mainly as part of the PE curriculum. It is varied and covers modern dance, traditional country dance and ethnic dance. Performances are given in school assemblies and concerts. Dance groups are sometimes invited into school to supplement our input. Drama Drama is essentially part of the English curriculum but is used in many other areas of the curriculum such as History or PSHE. Children perform for their classmates, or for the school, as well as for more public occasions. Children are encouraged to write their own drama as well as performing that of others. The curriculum is backed up with theatre visits, as well as by any relevant visiting theatre companies. |
