Knowles Junior School caters for children between 7 and 11 (years 3 - 6). It covers Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum. Sharing a site with Knowles Infant School and Knowles Nursery School, means that children are able to make a smooth transfer between the schools as much planning and many events are shared. As a member of the Leon Educational Partnership which promotes a continuous learning programme from 3 - 18, we aim to give children the opportunity to enter school confidently and to experience an education appropriate to each child. Head teachers and staff co-operate fully. Expertise, skills and resources are shared. Transferring between schools within the Partnership is a planned process minimising stress or difficulty. There is close liaison between Infant and Junior, and between Junior and Secondary schools, leading to successful transfer. We believe that the education the Partnership schools give to children enhances the quality of life for the pupils who have been fortunate enough to be part of it. Organisation Of Teaching Groups The school's policy has been, whenever possible, to operate an age banded system of organisation keeping the four age groups separate. This policy is reviewed annually by Governors in the light of pupil numbers and staffing levels. All classes are of mixed ability. Each year group is divided into classes of approximately equal size. Each class has its own teacher supported as necessary by ancillary staff. Recognising that each child is an individual with its own needs, we organise our teaching to be as flexible as possible to accommodate these needs. The school relies on a mixture of teaching methods to deliver the curriculum. All teachers use whole class and group teaching where appropriate and there are times when children follow individual work programmes. There is no significant difference in approach throughout the school. Area Served By The School The school serves most of central Bletchley, bordered on the west by the main railway line, on the northern side by Denbigh Industrial Estate, on the east by the Grand Union Canal and on the south by Water Eaton Road. Out Of Area Children The school is prepared to admit children from any district outside the area served by the school, subject to the approval of the Governing Body. Transporting children to and from school is the parent's responsibility. Parents who wish to send their children to Knowles Junior School are asked to contact the school to make an appointment with the Headteacher. Standard Admission Numbers We are able to accommodate a maximum of 60 pupils in each year group. |
